We couldn’t connect to Email this morning on the phone at the office. We’ll try again tomorrow. Edith went to town this morning and left me back at the cabin. How nice! She probably wanted me to get my rest.

I did notice that she took the credit cards with her and came back with a bunch of packages, but I’m sure she wouldn’t have gone shopping without me.  (She met Betty Houston in Timberline Craftsman who said to say hi to Jim and Fran).  Betty has lived in Lake City for 30 years.  When she was growing up in Philadelphia, all she wanted was a cabin in the mountains.  Now that she has that (and a little more she said), all she wants is a cabin a little further into the mountains – but with a dishwasher, a good stove, washer, dryer, and a satellite dish.  Times have changed!   Edith brought back a beirox from the local bakery. It’s folded-over bread dough (similar to a calzone) filled with ground beef and cabbage and heavy on the pepper. It’s one of the things miners took along with them when they worked in the mines.

We took our first drive North of town.  The weather has been great (high of 80 and low of 50-60) and the countryside looked beautiful as we followed the river. The water was too high up to now but it appears that fishing is getting better. The wild sage is just starting to show its new growth (all I need to do is find a turkey and I will be in business).

Tonight we had a few slices of pizza at the Poker Alice Restaurant. In the 1890’s, Poker Alice moved from town-to-town, and she always won her card games. Sounds like someone else I know (I’m kind of stalling behind the laptop right now – Edith is shuffling the cards and has that look of superiority).
